A reticulated python called Fluffy from Columbus Zoo in Powell, Ohio, USA who measures over 24 feet (7.3 m) and weighs 220lb has been recognised as the Longest Snake in Captivity after a year of research from the global record keepers.

The length of the snake is the same as two cars, a caravan or a limousine, and it took a total of nine brave zoo members to lift the record-breaking snake for her picture in the new book. Fluffy arrived at the Zoo in 2007 and since then has been visited by between 50,000 and 70,000 visitors a week.

Carey Pratt, Assistant Curator at the Zoo says: “Fluffy is a fairly calm and laidback snake. She enjoys her life of solitude”. When asked about Fluffy’s diet, Pratt said “Let’s just say that Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse wouldn’t make good friends for her”.

A client in an Israeli health spa enjoys her latest “snake massage” by six non-venomous snakes. Here, large reptiles are good for deep tissue massage while their smaller counterparts ideal for delicate areas such as face. For 70 U.S. dollars, the spa will treat clients to snakes in what it says a relaxing massage curing aching muscles and joints.

It’s a massage that is sure to make most people’s skin crawl, but one woman has got herself in a twist with her latest massage technique. Ara Barak claims her pet snakes make the ideal masseurs as their slithering causes a massage sensation when placed on a person’s skin. Ms Barak said she discovered her pet’s ‘therapeutic value’ after noticing her friends became more relaxed after holding them.

‘Some people said that holding the snakes made them feel better, relaxed,’ she said. ‘One old lady said it was soothing, like a cold compress.’ The owner of Israel’s Barak’s Snake Spa said her pets are able to give massage as their slithering causes a rubbing sensation on the body. Ms Barak had relied on exhibiting her scaly friends to make money, but found there is more cash rolling in from people wanting a massage – reptile therapy style. The larger snakes are used for deep massage while the smaller creatures are used to give a lighter touch – all for a mere £30.

And those with a slight reluctance to have a snake massage will be pleased to know the reptiles are all non-venamous. But if the thought of reptiles is too much, Ms Barak also offers a rodent-style massage where mouse and rats are placed on the bottom of people’s feet instead.

This is really bizarre, this Double Headed Snake found in alicante Spain This is a rare two headed snake found by a farmer in a village in Alicante, Spain. The chances of a two headed snake surviving in the wild is very slim as both would often fight over which head will swallow the prey as well as difficulty in deciding which direction to go.

Zoologists at the University of Valencia say the rare reptile can eat using both heads at the same time

Eating is a slow process and the two heads have been known to fight each other for food.

Other double-headed snakes have been found in Honduras, the United States, Sri Lanka and Argentina.

Black mambas are one of Africa’s most dangerous and feared snakes. Nothing is truer when you are standing in front of big black mamba hissing loudly, mouth gaping, striking rapidly in your direction. But are all the frightening stories about black mambas true? I don’t think so. On the African continent many myths are told about these wonderful creatures. Stories abound about black mambas chasing people for miles, attacking when they notice you and visiting houses to kill every single person inside. All are exaggerations.

A black mamba family was observed on the banks of the Limpopo River. There were three mambas, each about 2,5 meters long, occupying a heap of large creeper-covered boulders near a river bank. Sugar birds would hover near the creeper, virtually motionless despite their whirring wings as they gathered nectar, pursuing one another in swift, darting flight, seemingly unaware of the snakes.

Adult Black mamba snakes have an average length of 2.5 metres (8.2 feet) and a maximum length of 4.5 metres (14 feet). The Black mamba snake receives it’s name from the black colouration inside of it’s mouth, rather than their skin colour which is a grey to olive tone. The Black mamba snake is the fastest moving snake in the world, capable of moving up to 20 km/h (12.5 mph). However it uses this speed to evade danger, rather than catch prey.
