Cycle Ball is a niche sport that combines football and cycling in a unique way. It’s been around for over a century, but it’s still regarded as an unusual sport, especially in America. Also known as “radball”, Cycle Ball was invented in 1893, by a German-American named Nicholas Edward Kaufmann, and steadily gained popularity around Europe. The first Cycle Ball championship was held in 1929, and the sport even reached far lands like Japan, but it never really caught on in the US. You’d think Yanks don’t fancy weird sports played on a bike, but how do you explain the increasing popularity of Bike Polo, or Unicycle Basketball?

Cycle Ball is played by two teams made up of two players riding around a basketball field and trying to shoot a ball through their opponents’ goal, using their heads, or the front wheels of the bikes. It may sound strange, but it’s a pretty simple and fun game to play. A match consists of two seven-minute halves, in which players must keep their feet off the ground to avoid a free-kick, and try to score more goals than their adversaries. While defending the goal, one of the players is allowed to use hands, but you’d be surprised how hard the ball is usually struck in one of these games, so using hands doesn’t help much if the ball is well directed

The playing area measure 36 feet by 46 feet and the bikes used are optimized for Cycling Ball: the seat is positioned over the back tire, they have a single gear so there’s no breaking and players can easily move backwards, and the handlebars point straight up. Each bike costs around 2,000 euros and weighs a lot more than an ordinary bicycle. Still, players require quite a lot of riding skill to keep their balance and possession of the ball, at the same time.

As their is no money to be made in Cycle Ball, professional players usually hold down full time jobs, while rigorously training in the gym, to keep in shape for competitions. These must pay a lot of money on bike wheels, because players run into each other all the time on the court. Still, the game is pretty spectacular and they spare no expense when it comes to getting the best gear possible

Here’s more stories about Tempestt Henderson the soap and washing detergent eater. Tempestt Henderson, a 19-year-old girl from Florida, has a rather peculiar addiction – she can’t help eating soap bars and washing powder. There are worst things to be addicted to, but this has to be one of the strangest.

The young girl remembers she loved the smell of washing powder on her mother’s cardigan and on her bed sheets, and so do many other people, but that doesn’t make them want to stuff their face with the toxic substance. But that’s exactly what Tempestt felt when she first dipped her fingers in washing powder and licked it off. ‘I dabbed the powder onto my tongue and it tasted so sweet, and salty…it just felt so right. I was hooked straight away.’ says the young nursing student.

She new that stuff was hazardous to her health, but she loved it so much she couldn’t stay away from it. From the moment she woke up, she would give in to her washing powder craving, ignoring the warning labels. Before she knew it, Tempestt began licking off the soap bubbles of her skin in the shower, and popping tiny chunks of soap in her mouth and suck on them. Eating soap felt much cleaner than just washing with it, and the young girl claims that at one point she would go through five bars of soap in a week.

Six months passed since her unnatural craving for soap and washing powder set in, and Tempest was finally beginning to realize the dangers she was exposing herself to, so she sought medical advice. She was immediately diagnosed with PICA, a rare condition that causes people to eat non-nutritive substances like metal, chalk and even sand. It’s usually caused by mineral deficiency, but in Tempestt’s case, the condition is believed to have been caused by stress. The girl’s boyfriend had broken up with her, before heading off to college, and she says that simply devastated her.

Regardless of what caused her to start eating soap and washing powder, Tempestt needed to stop as soon as possible, as the complications from ingesting such toxic chemicals were putting her life at risk. Doctors gave her intensive Cognitive-behavioral therapy, to help her think of positive things when she felt like eating soap, and also encouraged her to get out more, take long walks, and avoid places where soap or detergent are available, like bathrooms and laundromats…She’s using liquid soap now, and for some reason it doesn’t appeal to her at all.

Tempest Henderson has been “clean” since September 2010, and hopes she will never give in to eating soap or washing powder ever again, but she knows she still faces a long road of recovery.

Lillian Lowe from Tenby, Pembrokeshire, south Wales, may be a grandmother and great-grandmother at 103, but she is still young-at-heart and her online adventure on Facebook is proof of that. Well I think she’s hardly find her schoolmate on facebook today.

Her grandson Steve is the one responsible with wetting her up with a Facebook account and he’s also the one who lent her his iPad, but she is planning to replace it with a newer version, seeing that she’s also up to date in terms of gadgets, as she admits herself “At the moment I use my grandson’s iPad but I am very hopeful to get one of my own, there are some great new models out at the moment.”

The reason that got her whole cyber adventure started was her wish to keep in touch with her seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Lillian thinks Facebook can be useful for other grandparents as well “I can recommend it for any grandparents to keep in touch with their family with ringing all the time.”But although she is very impressed with all the different things one can find on-line, she still considers it a terrible waste of time.

She now has 34 “friends” on her Facebook account but the most active one, by far, is her 10-year-old great grand-daughter.

One can say the young-at-heart grandmother,whom her family call “Supergran”:, has seen pretty much seen it and done it all: She was born in 1907 and can still remember the news about the sinking of the Titanic, by the time the First World War started, she was already in school and she most certainly “was there” when computer industry made its first steps – “Apple 1″ computer was launched in 1976, followed by the “Osborne 1″ in 1981, first version of Windows in 1985 and she’s now not just witnessing but also using the IPad. As she says “I think virtually everything has been invented during my time. What I particularly like now is this Google Earth.”

Her experience may be the reason she finds herself unimpressed with things happening nowadays, “I have seen a few things over the years, so nothing really shocks me these days anyway.”

For the last thirty years, Li Liuqun has spiced up his meals by eating live scorpions. He literally just picks them up, shoves them into his moth and eats them whole. It seems that every day there’s a new bizarre people in the world. they eat anything. remember about the omnivore boy which is posted before?

Li Liuqun discovered the “delicious” taste of raw scorpions, thirty years ago, when he was stung by a scorpion, while hiking on a hill, near his home village, in Henan. The angry Li simply picked up the insect and ate it as revenge. This crazy act made him realize he actually liked the taste of scorpion, and he has since then eaten thousands of creepy crawlies.

The 58-year-old scorpion eater says he keeps the insects in a big porcelain jar, and every time he gets a craving for scorpion, he just reaches down, grabs a few of them and puts them in his mouth. When asked to describe the taste of scorpion flesh, Li Liuqun said it tastes a little like fried soya beans.

As you might expect, some of the live scorpions have stung Li in the mouth, as he bit down on them, but the says he is immune to their poison. All it does is cause a little swelling that goes down in a few hours, and their delicious taste is well worth that much.
