The Latest News about Haiti Earthquakes was gonna be the hot news today, since the earthquake had flattened several buildings the land in the capital Port-au-Prince. Earthquake shocks initial magnitude 7 on the Richter scale on Tuesday (12/1/2010) at 16:45 local time

According to major news reports the island of Haiti has suffered catastrophic damage today due to a massive 7.0 earthquake which struck at 4:53 PM, followed by a series of strong aftershocks. In 1999, a conference was held in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, where research was presented regarding the seismic potential in the Haiti region and where scientists concluded the Haiti region was overdue for a massive catastrophic earthquake which would strike without warning. The following is a summary of the conference and its findings:

“There are so many buildings which collapsed, “Zelenka said in a telephone interview from Port-au-Prince. “This disaster would be catastrophic.”

A powerful earthquake hits Haiti, and the capital, Port-Au-Prince, has been hit hard in the Caribbean earthquake. There was heavy damage in the capital of Haiti and a hospital had collapsed in the impoverished nation according to earlier reports. Millions across the Carabbean felt the quake that is likely to have caused severe damage.

News is still coming in from Haiti even though it’s getting dark. The earthquake occured just before 4pm EST today. Night has now fallen, so we will have to wait to see the damage tomorrow.
