Santiago the capital of Chile was hit by the 8.5 richter scale earthquake. it was said that the chile earthquake was potentially bring a tsunami in santiago chile. Chile got a tsunami warning from tsunami warning center due to the effect of the earthquake in santiago. the quake that hit santiago was really a massive one. maybe like the haiti earthquake accident earlier this year.

Chile Earthquake, the magnitude 8.5 earthquake hit Concepcion in Chile on this Saturday, approximately the size of the earthquake is between 8.3 till 8.5 magnitude. The earthquake strike was so sudden, people were unaware of it! Fox News says that the Chile Earthquake was so strong that could shaking buildings and blackouts in some area of Santiago, Chile’s capital city. Right after the earthquake strike, Tsunami warning is given for people of Chile and Perlu, also some area in Ecuador according to Warning Center

The quake hit 200 miles (325 kilometers) southwest of the capital, Santiago, at a depth of 22 miles (35 kilometers) at 3:34 a.m. (0634 GMT; 1:34 a.m. EST), the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The epicenter was just 70 miles (115 kilometers) from Concepcion, Chile’s second-largest city, where more than 200,000 people live along the Bio Bio river, and 60 miles from the ski town of Chillan, a gateway to Andean ski resorts that was destroyed in a 1939 earthquake.

An Associated Press Television News cameraman said some buildings collapsed in Santiago and power was out in parts of the city. Phone lines were either down or busy, making confirmation of damage difficult elsewhere, especially further south toward the epicenter. The quake was felt in Argentina as well.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for Chile and Peru, and a less-urgent tsunami watch for Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Antarctica.

The Warning Center stated: “An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours, Reuters News Agency said
