7.2 SR Earthquake Hits Aceh

A massive earthquake measured about 7.2 SR hits Aceh on wednesday 7 april 2010 05.15AM local time. it was said that this massive earthquake was potentially bring a tsunami like the previous tsunami in aceh in 2004.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the Aceh earthquake 2010 struck at 5:15 a.m. and was centered at around 60 kilometers southwest of Sinabang, Aceh, at 24 kilometers beneath the surface.

Antara state news agency reported panic stirred among residents in Banda Aceh, Medan and Riau and also blackouts in Banda Aceh.

So far, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries after Nothern Sumatra earthquake 2010. let’s pray for aceh people..

For addition, BMKG also recorded two aftershocks, each measuring 5.1 and 5.2 on the Richter scale, at 5:26 and 5:28 a.m..

Moderate quakes have often rock the Aceh province , which was the worst hit area when the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami struck.
